When Are Bananas Ripe?

Banana skin indicates the degree of ripeness. Here is a guide for using bananas.

Green—unripened.

Yellow with green tips—partially ripe and can be used for broiling, baking or frying.

All yellow—ripe and can be eaten raw. Great for pudding, cakes and pies.

Yellow with brown flecks—completely ripe and perfect for salads, bread and eating raw.

All brown—over ripe; if it is firm it can still be eaten.
